Rooney fit for Spurs trip

Wayne Rooney is fit for Manchester United's trip to Tottenham on Sunday.

A throat infection kept Rooney out of United's recent games against Ajax and Norwich and England's midweek friendly with Holland.

But the striker has trained all week and will return to a squad still missing Tom Cleverley (ankle) and Antonio Valencia (hamstring).

Chris Smalling suffered a gashed head on England duty and will need assessing, while Michael Owen is back in training after a thigh injury.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: "I hope Michael can have a little bit of luck now because he has not had much at all. Hopefully he will be back for the end of the season now, which would help us."

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says he is optimistic that Gareth Bale will be fit for Sunday's match despite picking up a hamstring injury in midweek.

Full-back Kyle Walker is expected to recover from the ankle injury he suffered during the loss at Arsenal last Sunday and Rafael van der Vaart (calf) and Ledley King (knee) are also likely to be available.

But Scott Parker will be banned after he was dismissed at the Emirates and William Gallas (calf) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle) remain on the sidelines.

United's game at White Hart Lane is live on Sky Sports HD1 on Sunday, kick-off 4.10pm.
