Beckham left out of Olympic squad

David Beckham has been left out of the British Olympic football team for London 2012.

David Beckham carries the Olympic torch
The former England captain is a shock omission from Stuart Pearce's 18-man GB squad, with Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy and Micah Richards selected as the three over-23 players.
He said: "Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me. So I would have been honoured to have been part of this.
"Naturally I'm very disappointed. There will be no bigger supporter of team than me."
Beckham was involved in London's successful bid in 2005, and has continued a prominent role as an ambassador for the games.
It was widely expected that the 37-year-old would play for Team GB as he brings the curtain down on his career - Pearce recently watched him in action for Los Angeles Galaxy.
The selection of Richards, who played under Pearce at Manchester City, comes as a major surprise as the defender refused a place on the standby list for England's Euro 2012 squad.
Players who went to the European Championship are not available for Olympic selection.
The remaining 15 players must be born after 1 January 1989.
