Arsenal midfielder undergoes surgery

Arsenal’s Tomas Rosicky will miss the start of the 2012/13 Premier League season after undergoing an operation on his troublesome Achilles.

The Czech Republic international has a history of injury problems, with his Achilles being one of his problem areas.

The 31-year-old suffered the injury at Euro 2012 and was expected to recover within a month, but the resultant surgery has ruled him out of Arsenal’s opener against Sunderland.

Rosicky has missed the Gunners pre-season tour of the Far East in order to have the surgery and could be out for up to two months.

Arsenal will also be without Jack Wilshere for the start of the season as he continues to recover from Knee and Ankle problems which kept him on the sidelines for the whole of last season.

However, Arsene Wenger has received a boost as Abou Diaby has come through two weeks of intensive pre-season training, and the 24-year-old could return to the first team squad at the start of the new campaign.
