QPR are improving a £3.25m bid for Odemwingie

Queens Park Rangers are preparing an improved £3.25 million bid for Peter Odemwingie, who will be fined two weeks’ wages by West Bromwich Albion after launching an extraordinary attack on the club at the weekend.

Odemwingie is determined to leave the Hawthorns this week and is facing a £70,000 punishment after a series of controversial messages on his Twitter account. He has criticised West Brom for turning down his transfer request and accused the club of a lack of respect after they rejected a bid from QPR.

But Harry Redknapp, the QPR manager, is set to return with another offer in the next 48 hours to test West Brom’s resolve as he attempts to strengthen his squad before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

QPR are bottom of the Premier League and 19 points behind Albion but Odemwingie has admitted he is flattered by Redknapp’s interest. He tweeted: “Best compliment I have ever received in my carrier [sic] as a player. Manager like HR spending to bring me for mission ‘impossible’.”

Steve Clarke, Albion’s head coach, has insisted that no players will be leaving the club this month.

Meanwhile, QPR defender Anton Ferdinand is in talks with Turkish side Bursaspor over a potential loan move. The 27-year-old joined the west Londoners from Sunderland in 2011 but, after impressing last season, has struggled for form this term.
