Bendtner banned by UEFA

Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner has received a one match ban and 100,000 euro fine for exposing the sponsored waistband of his underpants during the Euro 2012 match with Portugal.

The 24-year-old Arsenal forward revealed the Paddy Power advertising after scoring for his country in the Group B match, and UEFA's Control and Disciplinary have decided to impose the £80,000 fine and suspension for "one competitive match".

A statement on the UEFA website states: "This suspension applies to the next 2014 FIFA World Cup match, including the qualifying competition, for which Bendtner is eligible."

Bendtner had been charged with "improper conduct" under Law 4 of the laws of the game, which states:

"Players must not reveal undershirts which contain slogans or advertising. A player removing his jersey to reveal slogans will be sanctioned by the competition organiser."

In addition, Article 18.18 of the "Regulations of the UEFA European Football Championship 2010-12" states that "All kit items worn during the final tournament must be free of any sponsor advertising."

The striker has three days from the written sanction in which to appeal.
