Andrey Arshavin claims former England manager Fabio Capello has been appointed boss of the Russia national team.
Capello, who quit as England boss in February, held talks with the Russian Football Association (RFU) in Moscow on Thursday.
Sports minister Vitaly Mutko told reporters they would name Dick Advocaat's successor next week but team captain Arshavin appears to have jumped the gun.
"Russia's national coach has been appointed - he is Fabio Capello. We wish him success in his new job," the Arsenal player - loaned to Zenit St Petersburg last season - wrote on his personal website.
Capello was part of a 13-man shortlist of candidates that was made public by the RFU earlier this month.
Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was also on the list of potential candidates.
