Radamel Falcoa |
Stamford Bridge side ready to switch attention to Colombian goal machine.Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is ready to pull the plug on the Blues move for FC Porto striker Hulk over excessive demands by both the Brazilian and his Portuguese club. The Russian billionaire will instead direct his efforts to Atletico Madrid as he looks to sign Colombian international Radamel Falcao.
The West London side have been in protracted talks with Hulk and appeared to be close to agreeing a deal to bring the 25 year old to Stamford Bridge but the deal has run cold and Abramovich has discussed the search for a new striker with technical director Michael Emanelo and will now look to lure Falcao this summer.
Radamel Falcao has adapted well to life in La Liga, notching up 36 goals in his first season at the Vicente Calderon but Diego Simeone’s side did not secure a Champions League spot for next term and as such could be vulnerable to big money offers for the 26 year old, who may well be tempted by a move to the Premier League side.
Ironically Falcao and Hulk were strike partners at FC Porto during their treble winning season in 2010/11 when they were managed by former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Atletico Madrid spent £32m to bring Falcao to the club a year ago and would presumably demand in excess of that fee, a fee that Roman Abramovich is apparently ready to spend as he looks to find a viable replacement for outgoing forward Didier Drogba.
