Modric closing on Spurs exit

Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas has admitted the club are in talks over the sale of midfielder Luka Modric.

Modric, who was denied a move to Chelsea last summer, is again keen to leave north London, with Real Madrid heavily linked with the Croatia international.

"He is very important player for this club and the interest that we have from different clubs shows what he has done for Tottenham," Villas-Boas told..

"It's fair to say we respect Luka's ambitions and willingness to move on, but I think he respects how important he is for us and discussions will continue until we reach agreement that is sensible for each party."

Portugal midfielder Joao Moutinho has been mooted as a possible replacement for Modric having played under Villas-Boas at Porto.

Moutinho recently said he would love to play for his former boss again and Villas-Boas admitted there is interest in the 25-year-old.

"He had a fantastic tournament at Euro 2012 and is an important player for Porto," he added.

"Players of his quality will always be interesting to us. He is not our only target but he is a player we look on with some interest."
