Bayer Leverkusen CEO Wolfgang Holzhauser has refused to rule out the possibility that Germany international Andre Schurrle could leave the club this summer.
Chelsea have seen a bid of around €20 million rejected for Schurrle, 21, but the Daily Telegraph has reported that an improved offer is likely to be lodged in the coming days.
Holzhauser has now stressed that Leverkusen remain determined to hold onto the forward but said further offers would be considered.
He told Rheinische Post: "I am not keen on ruling anything out at any point in time, but personally I have laid this topic to full rest last weekend.
"Of course, we have seriously considered the offer. We did. Still we came to the conclusion we would be unable to sign an adequate and affordable replacement for Andre Schurrle."
