Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer says he closed his Twitter account partly out of frustration at the lack of accountability of users.
Australia's most capped player was a regular on the social networking service before recently deciding to call it quits.
"It was just consuming too much time and just the s*** that goes on in Twitter," Schwarzer said.
"When I speak to (national team-mate) Brad Jones and hear how he got abused when his (six-year-old) son died, to me that is just pathetic.
"There is no regulation of it all and before anything goes on (with me), I thought I have had enough."
