West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke has played down reports of a possible January move for leading scorer Shane Long.
Clarke dismissed suggestions in a Sunday newspaper that Long could make a £12m switch to Liverpool.
The Ireland international has scored seven goals this season as the Baggies have moved up to finish in the Premier League.
But Clarke told the Express and Star: 'Liverpool need a striker and Shane is playing well so a journalist has put it together and tried to make a story out of it. Shane is not for sale and I’d be very surprised if Brendan Rodgers wanted to take Shane.'

Meanwhile, Clarke has backed Sweden international Markus Rosenberg to come good for the Baggies after a difficult full Premier League debut in Saturday’s loss to Stoke.
He added: 'It was a game that was difficult for anyone to shine in.'
