Mikel: It’s a one-horse race

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel admits the Premier League title is “a one-horse race” with Manchester United on course to regain their place at the top of English football.

United are 12 points clear of neighbours Manchester City with 11 games remaining and, after throwing away an eight-point lead last season, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men show little sign of slowing down in their pursuit of a 20th league title.

City arerefusing to give up on the title but Mikel has conceded there is little chance of anyone catching United in the remaining 11 games of the campaign.

“It’s a one-horse race. To be realistic, I don’t think anyone will be putting money on us or City to win this title,” Mikel is quoted as saying in The Sun.

“It’s all about United. It is difficult to see anyone catching them.”

Defeat to City at the weekend dented Chelsea’s hopes of finishing second and the reigning European champions now found themselves in fourth following Tottenham’s 3-2 win at West Ham United on Monday night.

With the title out of their reach, Chelsea find themselves in a battle to finish in the top four with just four points covering Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal.
