The Japan international completed his move from Borussia Dortmund on Friday after passing his medical and penning a four-year deal at Old Trafford.
Kagawa expressed his excitement at joining the Red Devils after admitting he already had thoughts about scoring his first goal at the Theatre of Dreams.
The 23-year-old midfielder told journalists on his return to Japan he had requested a number "with personal meaning" and wanted to carve out his own niche at United before considering whether to sport the same number worn by the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
"I've just joined the team and haven't accomplished anything yet," he said. "I want to make a name for myself [at United] on my own terms.
"The contract was as long as I'd expected from a club [like United]. When I was at [Old Trafford], I thought about how incredible it would be if I could score there."
