Ajax have issued an apology after an incident that saw the AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Esteban attacked by a spectator.
The 22-year-old Costa Rican was targeted by the fan during the first half of their KNVB Beker clash at the Amsterdam Arena.
Esteban was then shown the red card following the incident, when he kicked the fan to the ground, with a furious AZ coach Gertjan Verbeek calling his players from the pitch.
The visitors then left the ground, with referee Bas Nijhuis forced to abandon the game and leaving Ajax red faced.
Ajax director Jeroen Slop told the club's official website: "This was a terrible incident and we deeply regret it and offer our sincere apologies.
"The supporter has been handed over to the police. It was a 19-year-old man who was probably under the influence of alcohol.
"He said he hated the AZ goalkeeper and had therefore attacked him."
