Barca came from behind to beat their fierce rivals at the Bernabeu on Saturday night, with Fabregas scoring his team's third and decisive goal in the first league Clasico of the season.
Madrid had taken the lead through Karim Benzema after just 22 seconds - the fastest goal in the history of this famous fixture - before Alexis Sanchez and Xavi put the Catalans ahead.
Fabregas' diving header sealed the win which sent Barcelona top of La Liga, and the former Arsenal captain admitted afterwards: "It's a very special day for me. The first half was tough but in the second we played a great match."
The 24-year-old also pointed to clever tactics from coach Pep Guardiola as being a key factor in their win.
"We played with three defenders for around 70 minutes and to do this and win at the Bernabeu says a lot about this team," he added.
