Scottish Premier League leader Rangers survived second-half pressure from visiting Inverness on Saturday before substitute Kyle Lafferty scored in the 87th minute for a 2-1 win.
Andrew Shinnie leveled the scores after a 55th-minute opener from Carlos Bocanegra, one of three Americans starting for the defending champions.
The visitors missed several chances and Shinnie had a goal ruled out for offside before Lafferty scored with a shot from Steven Davis' pass.
Rangers has 48 points to 41 for Celtic, which plays at St. Johnstone on Sunday.
Hearts beat bottom club Dunfermline 4-0, 10-man Aberdeen beat Hibernian 1-0 at snowy Pittodrie stadium, St. Mirren drew 1-1 at Motherwell, and Dundee United drew 1-1 at Kilmarnock.
