Barcelona is eyeing up the talent with a view to putting together its squad for next season. Just prior to the official presentation of Tito Vilanova on Friday, the Catalan club sent a representative to see the Croatian goal scoring revelation in action.
The Barça scout saw Mario Mandzukic play on Thursday, in Croatia´s game against Italy, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Pirlo put Italy ahead but Mandzukic equalized for Croatia in spectacular fashion.
So far in the European Championship he has scored three goals in two games, the first two against Ireland in Croatia´s opening game and, having scored the decisive equaliser against Italy, now ranks among the competition´s top scorers alongside the Russian, Dzagoev, and the German striker, Mario Gómez.
Coincidentally, Mandzukic might end up being team mates with Gómez next season if Jupp Heynckes gets his way, but Bayern is not alone in wanting to sign the 26 year old Croatian striker, who is 1.86m tall.
