Euro 2012 - Premier League watch

The Premier League has 14 clubs represented at Euro 2012: Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City, Sunderland, Stoke City and Aston Villa.

ARSENAL

Wojciech Szczesny (Poland)

1-1 v Greece - Played 68 minutes, sent off (4)

Responsible for the co-hosts relinquishing their lead with an error of judgement to allow Dimitrios Salipigidis to equalise and then fouled him, receiving a straight red card. Substitute Przemyslaw Tyton saved the subsequent spot-kick, and took the suspended Szczesny's place for the next game.

1-1 v Russia - Did not play (suspended)

1-1 v Russia - Did not play

Andrei Arshavin (Russia)

4-1 v Czech Republic - Played 90 minutes (7)

A performance full of dynamism, creativity and effort gives promise that Arshavin may thrill in this European Championship as the last one.

1-1 v Poland - Played 90 minutes (7)

Assisted Alan Dzagoev's headed goal with a peach of a free-kick, and played with the sort of verve Arsenal fans have not seen for a good 18 months.

Tomas Rosicky (Czech Republic)

1-4 v Russia - Played 90 minutes (5)

Involved in every decent spell of Czech possession, but was unable to help his team stem the Russian tide.

2-1 v Greece - Played 45 minutes (6)

After a lively first half, Rosicky went off at the interval suffering from an Achilles complaint that makes him a doubt for the final group game against Poland. Booked.

Nicklas Bendtner (Denmark)

1-0 v Netherlands - Played 90 minutes (7)

A good game up front for the erratic centre-forward, who held the ball up well at times when the Dutch weren't spurning chance after chance at the other end.

2-3 v Portugal - Played 90 minutes, scored two goals (8)

Two well-taken goals from the centre-forward took his record against Portugal to six goals in five games.

Per Mertesacker (Germany)

1-0 v Portugal - Did not play

2-1 v Netherlands - Did not play

Lukas Podolski (Germany)

1-0 v Portugal- Played 90 minutes (6)

Had four shots against Portugal, but failed to add to his impressive international tally of 43 goals.

Robin van Persie (Netherlands)

0-1 v Denmark - Played 90 minutes (5)

An uncharacteristically awful performance from the Arsenal goal machine as his touch and aim continually let him down.

1-2 v Germany - Played 90 minutes, scored on goal (6)

Fans of both Netherlands and Arsenal will hope the striker has played his way back into scoring form with his fine second-half goal, though his overall performance was again sub-par.

Laurent Koscielny (France)

1-1 v England - Did not play

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (England)

1-1 v France - Played 77 minutes (7)

Making his first competitive appearance, the Arsenal youngster showed a few lovely touches, though didn't see nearly as much of the ball in the second half.

Theo Walcott (England)

1-1 v France - 90th minute substitute (N/A)

Given no time to influence the game, but at least finally made an appearance at a major finals six years after first being called up to the squad for the 2006 World Cup.

ASTON VILLA

Shay Given (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Played 90 minutes (5)

Was perhaps slow to react to Mario Mandzukic's third-minute header, but could do little about Croatia's other goals.

0-4 v Spain - Played 90 minutes (4)

Directly responsible for two of Spain's goals and partly at fault for the fourth, he looked uneasy throughout. High balls have never been his forte but even his shot-stopping has suffered.

Richard Dunne (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Played 90 minutes (5)

Such a hero for Ireland in qualifying, but the centre-back went to pieces along with the rest of his defence.

0-4 v Spain - Played 90 minutes (4)

Predictably, Spain ran rings around the leaden-footed defender, who was left floundering for Fernando Torres's first and generally looked on in bewilderment at Spain's passing moves.

CHELSEA

Petr Cech (Czech Republic)

1-4 v Russia - Played 90 minutes (5)

Shipped as many goals in 90 minutes against Russia as he did in his last five Champions League knockout games.

2-1 v Greece - Played 90 minutes (5)

Produced an absolute howler to gift Greece a way back into the game, coming hesitantly for an easy ball, then letting it slip through his grasp.

Raul Meireles (Portugal)

0-1 v Germany - Played 80 minutes (5)

Helped Portugal play well in spells against one of the favourites for the trophy, but did not shine.

3-2 v Denmark - Played 84 minutes (6)

Completed just 55 per cent of his passes against Denmark, who enjoyed the majority of the possession. Three shots from range all failed to test the keeper.

Fernando Torres (Spain)

1-1 v Italy - 73rd minute substitute, booked (5)

Looked bright and energetic after coming off the bench, but missed two clear chances.

4-0 v Ireland - Played 74 minutes, scored twice (8)

His best game in a Spain shirt for nearly two years, Torres responded to the challenge of a starting berth with two well-taken goals. Was a threat throughout.

Juan Mata (Spain)

1-1 v Italy - Did not play

4-0 v Ireland - Did not play

Florent Malouda (France)

1-1 v England - Played 85 minutes (6)

A patchy performance from the Chelsea man, who never really convinced in a more central role. His use of the ball was unimpressive and he was rarely a threat to the England defence.

Ashley Cole (England)

1-1 v France - Played 90 minutes (6)

Was not the busiest member of the England back four with Nasri often drifting to the centre from the right, but coped well when called upon in his usual unfussy style.

John Terry (England)

1-1 v France - Played 90 minutes (7)

A typically robust performance from the former captain in the first half as he took one pass away from Benzema with an outstretched leg and made his presence felt in the box.

EVERTON

Nikica Jelavic (Croatia)

3-1 v Republic of Ireland - Played 72 minutes, scored one goal (8)

Continued his fantastic club form with a chip over Given that took the game away from Ireland.

1-1 v Italy - Played 83 minutes (6)

Found it harder against the Italians but was lively anyway. Had an enthralling battle with Daniele De Rossi, and made one poor decision to cut the ball back when he should have shot.

Darron Gibson (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Did not play

0-4 v Spain - Did not play

John Heitinga (Netherlands)

0-1 v Denmark - Played 90 minutes (5)

Culpable for Denmark's goal by Michael Krohn-Dehli which now gives the Dutch a mountain to climb in the 'Group of Death'.

1-2 v Germany - Played 90 minutes (5)

Another disappointing performance from the defender who has had such a good season for his club.

Leighton Baines (England)

1-1 v France - Did not play

FULHAM

Damien Duff (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Played 90 minutes (5)

The winger made a name for himself the last time Ireland were at a major finals, but against Croatia he underwhelmed like so many of his team-mates.

0-4 v Spain - Played 76 minutes (6)

Probably one of Ireland's better players on the night, he worked tirelessly in midfield but was let down by his team's woeful defending.

Stephen Kelly (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Did not play

0-4 v Spain - Did not play

LIVERPOOL

Daniel Agger (Denmark)

1-0 v Netherlands - Played 90 minutes (8)

It's difficult to say the Agger was a defensive colossus when the Dutch had nigh on 30 shots, bet he helped Denmark to a clean sheet and a vital win.

1-2 v Portugal - Played 90 minutes (7)

A couple of poor touches and passes in the second half almost led to Portugal re-opening their two-goal lead.

Pepe Reina (Spain)

1-1 v Italy - Did not play

4-0 v Ireland - Did not play

Glen Johnson (England)

1-1 v France - Played 90 minutes

Had plenty of the ball and looked to get forward when not tied up with the responsibility of dealing with Franck Ribery.

Martin Kelly (England)

1-1 v France - Did not play

Jordan Henderson (England)

1-1 v France - 78th minute substitute (6)

The man called from the standby list to replace Gareth Barry didn't put a foot wrong after his introduction but neither did he make an appreciable impact on the game.

Steven Gerrard (England)

1-1 v France - Played 90 minutes (7)

A lovely set-piece assist for Joleon Lescott's goal, but otherwise the England's captain main work was putting in a disciplined performance in a more defensive capacity.

Stewart Downing (England)

1-1 v France - Did not play

Andy Carroll (England)

1-1 v France - Did not play

MANCHESTER CITY

Nigel de Jong (Netherlands)

0-1 v Denmark - Played 71 minutes (5)

Was sacrificed for the final quarter of the game as Bert van Marwijk tried to add some cutting edge into his misfiring team.

1-2 v Germany - Played 90 minutes, booked (5)

The midfield enforcer had little answer to the attacking prowess of Mesut Ozil and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Mario Balotelli (Italy)

1-1 v Spain - Played 56 minutes, booked (5)

Some wonderfully impudent moments mixed with petulant tantrums and the inexplicable decision to slow down when running clean through on goal? That's our Mario.

1-1 v Croatia - Played 70 minutes (6)

Won the free-kick from which Andrea Pirlo scored, had a couple of efforts saved, and fired one great low shot just wide. Also guilty of a few rash moments with and without the ball, and looked sulk when subbed off.

David Silva (Spain)

1-1 v Italy - Played 65 minutes (7)

Part of Spain's three-man, striker-less front role, the playmaker indulged in some wonderful flashes of tiki taka and set up Cesc Fabregas's goal with a wonderful through ball.

4-0 v Ireland - Played 90 minutes, scored (8)

Always a delight to watch, Silva got on the scoresheet with an easy low finish after Shay Given gifted the ball to the playmaker. Also set up Torres's second.

Gael Clichy (France)

1-1 v England - Did not play

Samir Nasri (France)

1-1 v England - Played 90 minutes, scored one goal (8)

His use of the ball was largely exemplary and a lovely goal was just reward for an excellent first half in which he found space with regularity in the centre and to the right.

Joe Hart (England)

1-1 v France - Played 90 minutes (7)

Hart looked nervous early on when flapping at the ball a couple of times but reverted to type with a stunning save to keep out a header from Alou Diarra.

Joleon Lescott (England)

1-1 v France - Played 90 minutes, scored one goal (8)

Scored the opening goal with a firm header and formed a solid enough partnership with Terry at the heart of the England defence.

James Milner (England)

1-1 v France - Played 90 minutes (5)

Guilty of a horrid miss after being played in by Young and rounding Hugo Lloris but was typically energetic, even if the ground he covered did not tally with the influence he had on the game.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Anders Lindegaard (Denmark)

1-0 v Netherlands - Did not play

2-3 v Portugal - Did not play

Nani (Portugal)

0-1 v Germany - Played 90 minutes (6)

Recovered from injury in time to play the full match against Germany, but got no change out of Philipp Lahm.

3-2 v Denmark - Played 90 minutes (7)

Looked much fitter and sharper than the opener against Germany. Set up Postiga for Portugal's second with a lovely cross.

Patrice Evra (France)

1-1 v England - Played 90 minutes (6)

Never really tested by James Milner and looked comfortable for most of this contest.

Phil Jones (England)

1-1 v France - Did not play

Ashley Young (England)

1-1 v France - Played 90 minutes (6)

Unlucky not to get an assist when Milner failed to score from his cute through-ball. In the second half he became marginalised as England created little in the final third.

Danny Welbeck (England)

1-1 v France - Played 89 minutes (7)

Was often isolated up front, but whenever he did see the ball he justified his inclusion ahead of Andy Carroll with a purposeful performance.

Wayne Rooney (England)

1-1 v France - Did not play (suspended)

NEWCASTLE UNITED

Tim Krul (Netherlands)

0-1 v Denmark - Did not play

1-2 Germany - Did not play

Hatem Ben Arfa (France)

1-1 v England - 84th minute substitute (N/A)

Some nice touches from the Newcastle man but his introduction came too late.

Yohan Cabaye (France)

1-1 v England - Played 90 minutes (7)

The Newcastle midfielder was fortunate not to see yellow for a succession of fouls but caused England problems throughout, particularly from just outside the box.

STOKE CITY

Jonathan Walters (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - 54th minute substitute (6)

The burly forward was introduced soon after Ireland went 3-1 down, and was unable to add much to the Irish attack.

0-4 v Spain - Half-time substitute (5)

Had little impact after coming on as Spain hogged the ball, largely in Ireland's final third.

Glenn Whelan (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Played 90 minutes (5)

The Stoke midfielder was always going to look second best when going up against Luka Modric.

0-4 v Spain - Played 80 minutes (5)

Supposed to be Ireland's ball-playing central midfielder but barely touched it as Spain racked up a European Championship passing record.

SUNDERLAND

Keiren Westwood (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Did not play

0-4 v Spain - Did not play

John O'Shea (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Played 90 minutes (5)

The veteran defender did not make a single tackle against Croatia as Ireland's reliable defence crumbled.

0-4 v Spain - Played 90 minutes (4)

Simply could not cope with Spain's overlapping and switching wide players, looked cumbersome and hapless at times.

James McClean (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Did not play

0-4 v Spain - 76th-minute substitute (6)

Was given little time to make an impact on a game long lost.

Sebastian Larsson (Sweden)

1-2 v Ukraine - Played 68 minutes (6)

Often a peripheral figure, Larsson did not contribute anywhere near as much as some other of his attacking team-mates.

SWANSEA CITY

Michel Vorm (Netherlands)

0-1 v Denmark - Did not play

1-2 v Germany - Did not play

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Luka Modric (Croatia)

3-1 v Republic of Ireland - Played 90 minutes, booked (7)

The little magician was simply a cut above against Ireland's midfield pairing of Glenn Whelan and Keith Andrews.

1-1 v Italy - Played 90 minutes (7)

Pulled the strings from deep as he led Croatia's second-half fightback, a fightback that saw them control possession and unlucky not to win it.

Rafael van der Vaart (Netherlands)

0-1 v Denmark - 71st minute substitute (6)

Replaced the far more defensively-minded Nigel de Jong but was unable to spark a comeback from the Dutch.

1-2 v Germany - 45th minute substitute (6)

The Dutch vice captain has been vocal in his dissatisfaction about being left on the bench, but had little influence after coming on at half-time.

Vedran Corluka (Croatia)

3-1 v Republic of Ireland - Played 90 minutes (6)

The utility man is on the look-out for a new club, and put himself in the shop window with a consummate defensive performance.

1-1 v Italy - Played 90 minutes (6)

Solid and unfussy, made some timely interventions in the air.

Scott Parker (England)

1-1 v France - Played 78 minutes (6)

An archetypal Parker performance: full of running and throwing his body in the way of shots. Tired towards the end but initially did not want to come off.

Jermain Defoe (England)

1-1 v France - 77th minute substitute (6)

Didn't get the solitary chance he sometimes needs to transform a game as England failed to play him in.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION

Simon Cox (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - 55th minute substitute (6)

One shot from range which was off target was not nearly enough to salvage a result for the Irish.

0-4 v Spain - Played 45 minutes (5)

Forced a decent second-minute save from Iker Casillas with a shot from the edge of the box, but barely touched the ball afterwards as he was deployed in an unfamiliar deeper role.

Shane Long (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - 74th minute substitute (6)

By the time Long came on, the game was already well beyond Ireland.

0-4 v Spain - Did not play

Keith Andrews (Republic of Ireland)

1-3 v Croatia - Played 90 minutes, booked (6)

Peppered the Croatian goal with several shots throughout the game but was comfortably outclassed.

0-4 v Spain - Played 90 minutes (6)

Probably Ireland's best player in that he put in a lot of tackles and worked hard to close the midfield down, but was partly at fault for Cesc Fabregas's goal.

Jonas Olsson (Sweden)

1-2 v Ukraine - Did not play
