Henderson not interested in excuses

Jordan Henderson has refused to use being played out of position as an excuse for his lacklustre start to life at Liverpool.

Henderson found himself branded as a waste of money this season after struggling to make an impact at Anfield following his move from Sunderland for a fee in the region of £17million.

The 21-year-old arrived a central midfielder but was often shoehorned into a right-wing position by sacked manager Kenny Dalglish.

Despite this, he did enough to convince England manager Roy Hodgson to call him up when injury struck the country's European Championship squad.

And with fears over the stamina of Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker, Henderson could find himself taking centre stage in the coming days.

Asked if it would be fairer to judge him in a midfield anchor role, he said: "A lot of people have said that. I think, probably, they are just protecting me. I think I should be able to play both positions.

"I have played on the right quite a lot now so I should be able to do that just as well, but given the chance in the middle, hopefully I can do a good job there as well."
