Whelan: Answer is always 'yes'

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has said he won't stand in Roberto Martinez's way if he wants to become Tottenham manager.

The Spaniard's future at the DW Stadium is once again in doubt after being linked with the vacant managerial position at White Hart Lane, rumours which come on the back of Martinez holding talks with Liverpool a few weeks ago.

Having turned down a move to Merseyside to stay at Wigan the Latics face another nervous wait to see whether Martinez will stay put or move on.

David Moyes, Andre Villas-Boas and Martinez are the early front runners in the betting following Redknapp's departure, although Spurs have said they will take their time over the appointment.

Should Spurs decide to turn to Martinez then Whelan has said he won't stop his manager holding talks with the north London club, although he is yet to hear anything from them.

"If Tottenham come to me and say they'd like to talk to him, the answer is 'yes'," Whelan told The Sun.

"It always is. That's because you cannot stop managers moving around.

"Swansea found that out recently.

"I would say though that Roberto is quite happy at Wigan. I spoke to him last night and I've heard nothing from Spurs."
