Fellaini injury not serious

Everton assistant manager Steve Round has allayed fears over the fitness of Marouane Fellaini following his absence from Tuesday’s FA Cup win over Oldham.

Fellaini was not included in the starting line-up for the visit of Oldham to Goodison Park and he was a surprise absentee from the bench, but it later emerged he had picked up a knock.

The nature of the injury is unclear but the Belgian international could miss Saturday’s Premier League tie against Reading, although Round expect him to be fit for the quarter-final clash with Wigan on Saturday week.

“Marouane is not serious. He has a good chance for this weekend,” Round explained.

“He will definitely be fit enough for Wigan next week we think.”

After a tough couple of matches, the Toffees bounced back with a pleasing win over Oldham and Round believes the result could see them regain their momentum.

“I thought there were signs tonight that our flow was coming back. Recently we had lost a little bit of that,” he said.

“I know we were against opposition lower than the Premier League but there were signs that our cohesion was coming back. The way that Steven Pienaar and Leighton Baines, and Kevin Mirallas and Seamus Coleman were linking up – we showed that maybe we are starting to return to some sort of form.

“It was a tough game I thought. Oldham put a right shift in and pushed us all the way. I thought they were a credit to the manager and themselves. They acquitted themselves right and made it very tough.”
