Klinsmann Poised To Name Bayern Captain

The Bavarian giants require a new leader on the pitch following the retirement of legend Oliver Kahn at the end of last season.

Club president Franz Beckenbauer has said that there is no shortage of players capable of stepping into Titan Oliver Kahn’s boots.

"Although whoever captains the side will not decide the title, it still sends out a signal" he told the Bild newspaper.

"The opponent looks at who is the first on the field and the captain has got to be a respected figure, like Paul Breitner, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Stefan Effenberg in the past.

"He has got to be a real man and accepted as a leader among the squad, leading an example as a battler on the field.

"Take a look around Europe. Chelsea have John Terry, Liverpool Steven Gerrard or Manchester United's defensive fighter Rio Ferdinand - they are all personalities."

It is believed that Beckenbauer favours full back Philipp Lahm. Although Mark van Bommel, Lucio, and martin Demichelis are all in the frame as well.

"They are all established professionals" Beckenbauer explained.

"I will let Jürgen surprise me with his decision."
