Scolari Desperate For Debut Win

The Blues have taken a strong squad to China, where they will kick off their summer schedule on Wednesday as they take on Guangzhou Pharmaceuticals. It will be Scolari’s first game in charge since taking the reins at Stamford Bridge earlier this month. Some may be expecting little more than a leisurely hit-out, but the Brazilian is determined to claim victory. He said in The Sun: “Be certain of this — I really want to win every game I play, even a friendly.” Scolari certainly came away with the spoils last time he took a team to Asia, as he lead Brazil to their fifth World Cup in Korea and Japan in 2002. The ex-Portugal coach has been drafted in by Roman Abramovich, Chelsea’s billionaire owner, with the specific aim of leading the club to both European and domestic glory in style. Felipao is aware he has a daunting task ahead of him, but he believes a healthy pre-season in the Far East could serve as a good omen for the coming campaign. “I am a new coach with a new philosophy and a big challenge,” Scolari added. “But I remember the last time I came to this area to train I was the coach of Brazil and we went on to win the World Cup in Japan. “So maybe the same will happen again — that would be fantastic.”
