Liverpool FC to launch bid for Edinson Cavani this month?

Liverpool are reportedly considering launching a bid to sign Napoli striker Edinson Cavani, who is also a target for Chelsea.

Cavani has been on Chelsea's radar for some time, with his agent recently refusing to rule out a move to west London as speculation continues that Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas is looking to lure him to Stamford Bridge at some point this year.

But according to FootyBunker, Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is ready to launch an ambitious bid to sign the Uruguay international before the January transfer window closes next week.

Dalglish insists he is happy with his squad, but with Luis Suarez still out through suspension, and with Andy Carroll still struggling following his £35million move to Anfield twelve months ago, it is clear that the Scot could benefit from having another option up front.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has confirmed that manager Dalglish has money to spend in the transfer market this month, insisting that "money is not an issue" (see below).

But whether the Merseysiders are really prepared to splash out £30m on Cavani before the winter transfer window closes remains to be seen.

Cavani himself recently hinted that he was open to a move away from Napoli this month. And speaking before the transfer window opened following a minor bust-up with coach Walter Mazzarri, agent Claudio Anellucci refused to rule out a mid-season move.

However, the agent had insisted that any decision regarding the 24-year-old's future rested with the Italian club.

"It is a problem that concerns Napoli, but not us," Anellucci told Radio CRC when asked about interest from Chelsea.

"These rumours are pleasing, but rumours are part of the game and the world of football. I think about the serious things and not the rumours."

Manchester United and rivals Man City have also shown interest in Cavani in recent months.
