Shevchenko: Blues can do it

Andriy Shevchenko believes former club Chelsea have every chance of beating Barcelona and progressing to the Champions League final.

The Blues square up against the defending European champions on Wednesday evening in their first-leg semi-final encounter wearing the underdog tag.

However, Roberto Di Matteo's men are in fine fettle at the moment and recently booked their place in the FA Cup final with a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham, while their top-four ambitions in the Premier League remain on track with just one loss in their last six outings.

Shevchenko, a record-breaking Chelsea signing in 2006, admits the Catalan giants will prove tough to topple, but the Ukrainian believes his old friends from England might just have what it takes to see off Pep Guardiola's superstars.

"Chelsea have a chance because the last couple of games Chelsea played very well and beat Tottenham in a very important game," Dynamo Kiev striker Shevchenko told Sky Sports News.

"All my old partners' experience of European football will help. Frank Lampard, John Terry, Didier Drogba, as well as the young players and (Branislav) Ivanovic.

"I think it will be a nice game and I hope Chelsea will win.

"Barcelona is a great team, with great players and plays fantastic football, with a lot of possession and good finishing.

"Chelsea always have a good chance at home because the Chelsea supporters push the team in a good way to win the game."
