Tevez: No apology to Ferguson

Carlos Tevez says he won't apologise to Sir Alex Ferguson for holding up an offensive banner targeting the Manchester United manager.

The grinning Manchester City striker brandished the sign bearing the words 'RIP Fergie' during City's open-top bus parade to celebrate winning the Premier League title.

City immediately issued a statement saying the Argentine had made an error of judgement, while Tevez himself said he meant no disrespect.

But back in his native Argentina, the 28-year-old said: "It seems like Ferguson is the president of England.

"Every time he speaks badly about a player or says terrible things about me, nobody says that he has to apologise.

"[But] when someone comes out with a joke or banter, you have to say sorry - but I don't say sorry."

Meanwhile, it has transpired the offending banner could have been a reference to Ferguson's reply to a question in 2009 about whether or not United would ever be underdogs against City.

"Not in my lifetime," he said.
