Blues defenders in training boost

David Luiz and Gary Cahill are on course to be fit for Chelsea's Champions League final against Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The defenders missed the final day Premier League clash against Blackburn through injury and Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo said he expected their fitness battle to go right up to the day of the game.

However, the pair were expected to train with the rest of the Chelsea squad on Tuesday, raising hopes they will take the field at the Allianz Arena, although the news on Florent Malouda was not as encouraging.

The winger was forced off with a hamstring problem in the first half of the 2-1 win over Rovers and Di Matteo said: "Flo, we'll still assess and it's going to be touch and go for him to be available for Saturday. Gary and David are going to try to train with us today."

The Blues are already without suspended trio John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and Raul Meireles and Di Matteo admits he may have to turn to youth if Luiz, Cahill and Malouda are ruled out.

"That's the worse-case scenario," he said. "We will take some reserve-team players onto the bench, into the squad, and just figure out what to do.

"I've been trying different options in training and different solutions just in case."
