The Nerazzurri had a disappointing night in Turin as they finished last in the annual three-way tournament, losing 1-0 to Juventus, before going down on penalties to city rivals Milan. Inter were already without a whole host of central defenders going into last night, with Walter Samuel, Ivan Cordoba and Christian Chivu all out, and just seven minutes in the first game with Juve, Marco Materazzi also hobbled off, leaving only Nicolas Burdisso as a natural centre half. “The lucky thing was that they were two mini-friendlies and we were allowed to lose them, given that after Materazzi’s injury we only had one natural central defender,” ta worried Mourinho told the Inter Channel. “But I am sincerely worried about the defensive situation. We will just have to wait on news from the medical team regarding Materazzi – it’s a muscular problem but that’s all we know for now. “It could be difficult having to pick Andrea Mei or Esteban Cambiasso alongside Nicolas Burdisso. However, the important games will come in a month’s time and we will have to be ready for that.” Inter have announced that they will be signing no more players this summer, following the acquisitions of Amantino Mancini and Sulley Muntari, but unless the current injury situation eases, they may be forced to go into the market for another central defender.
