Stephen Kenny has been sacked by Shamrock Rovers after a disappointing eight month tenure with the defending League of Ireland champions.
The club confirmed the news this afternoon and have appointed assistant manager Stephen Glass to take charge of Friday night's FAI Ford Cup quarter-final. He will take charge in a temporary capacity.
"We have not taken this decision lightly and we are extremely disappointed with the turn of events," Rovers chairman Jonathan Roche said today. "However, the club feels that this is the right decision at this time, and attention now turns to Friday night's FAI Ford Cup game against Shelbourne and identifying the next manager of Shamrock Rovers.
"We would like to wish take this opportunity to wish Stephen the best for the future."
The 40-year-old was announced as successor to Michael O'Neill on December 27th, after resigning from his position as Derry City manager three days beforehand.
However, after only 10 wins from 24 games in the league this season, culminating in last night's 1-0 home defeat to fierce rivals Bohemians at Tallaght Stadium, his contract has been terminated.
The 40-year-old Tallaght native only lost four of those games but his side lie fourth, 13 points adrift of Sligo Rovers, and after a league-winning season under O'Neill, in which Rovers competed in the group stages of the Champions League, the Rovers board opted to act under increasing pressure from disgruntled fans.
