Barcelona head coach Tito Vilanova has revealed Lionel Messi may not feature in Saturday's La Liga clash at Getafe.
Messi has been on international duty with Argentina and only returned from South America earlier this week.
But while Vilanova has hinted Messi may need a rest after two World Cup qualifiers in five days, Barcelona may need the world's best player to beat a Getafe side who overcame La Liga champions Real Madrid last month.
"I've spoken to him (Messi) this morning," Vilanova said.
"He said he is alright, I'll ask him tomorrow anyway as I do with the other players that return from long journeys so I know how they are, specifically regarding jetlag, and depending on how he is we'll decide whether he plays or not."
Barcelona already hold a five-point lead over bitter rivals Real Madrid after just three rounds in La Liga, prompting a belief throughout Spain that if Vilanova's side can beat the reigning champions on October 8, they will win the title.
But Vilanova has refused to discuss playing Real Madrid, claiming it is 'useless to think about El Clasico'.
"No, our aim is the next match, it's pointless to focus on matches we have in three month's time," Vilanova said.
"We need to focus on Getafe, then we'll focus on the Champions League and so on.
"Right now it's useless to think about El Clasico, the important thing is Getafe.
"A difficult stadium where lately we have found it tough and they have not long ago beaten Real Madrid.
"This is a really important match."
