Wayne Rooney admits he would be 'proud' to surpass George Best and Dennis Viollet in the list of Manchester United's all-time leading goalscorers.
The striker's brace against Aston Villa on Sunday took his tally for the Red Devils to 178 since his 2004 move from Everton and leaves him just one behind Best and Viollet.
A further two goals will lift Rooney into fourth place in United's all-time list and trailing only Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Jack Rowley, who have all scored over 200 goals for the club.
However, while the 26-year-old would be happy to post another landmark, he is focused on helping United retain the Premier League title.
Great achievement
"It would be great to equal the record and hopefully surpass them," Rooney told MUTV.
"It would be a great achievement that I would be proud of but I can't really look at that at the minute.
"If it happens then great, hopefully it will before the end of the season, but I'm just concentrating on my game."
United's 4-0 victory over Villa re-established a five-point lead over Manchester City and the foundations for the win were laid by Paul Scholes' passing game.
Scholes came out of retirement in January and has played a key role in United's rise to the top of the table, and Rooney hopes the 37-year-old is keen to carry on.
He added: "Everyone has seen the quality over the years. It's just fantastic the way he keeps the ball for the team.
"He's a big, important player for us and, hopefully, he'll be here for a while."
