Coloccini ruled out for Argentina

Fabricio Coloccini has been ruled out of Argentina's World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Friday.

Coloccini, 30, has seen his impressive form for Newcastle rewarded with a call-up to his national side, but will now miss the game with a hamstring injury.

The defender's fitness will now be monitored ahead of Argentina's second qualifier against Peru on Tuesday.

A statement on the Argentina FA website said: "Fabricio Coloccini has a hamstring injury in the femoral biceps of his right leg. He will travel with the squad to continue treatment with the team doctor.''

The former AC Milan and Villarreal defender joined Newcastle from Deportivo La Coruna in 2008, and recently admitted that playing in the Premier League, Europe, and internationally this season will be a difficult task.

"Of course, it's going to be harder than the last year [with Newcastle]. We have to take care of our bodies, and try to stay fit," Coloccini told the Evening Chronicle. "It's far away, a 12-hour flight, but when I go to play for Argentina, I don't think about the hours. It's not a problem."

The Argentinean's injury will also be of concern to Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, who is already short of defenders ahead of their trip to Everton on September 17, with Ryan Taylor out for a lengthy period after suffering knee ligament damage, and James Perch and Danny Simpson both doubts.
