AC Milan striker Giampaolo Pazzini has moved in the opposite direction as part of the deal, which involves an undisclosed fee going to the Rossoneri.
A statement on Inter's official website read: "The nerazzurri have signed the Bari-born striker on a permanent deal from AC Milan.
"He has signed a two-year contract which runs until June 2014."
The Italy international missed a large part of last season after undergoing emergency heart surgery having suffered a stroke in October.
"He just turned 28 a few weeks ago and here he is in a new stage of his career. 'Il Pazzo' will score plenty of goals for Milan, after scoring 15 for atalanta, 33 for Fiorentina, 48 for Sampdoria & 19 for Inter. At Milanello he will find his good friend Riccardo Montolivo and he'll feel young again just like during their days at Atalanta when both of them were discovered by legendary talent scout Mino Favini. Then, together they joined Fiorentina hand in hand. Today Pazzini is at Milanello, to start an exciting future. After having been part of the 2010 South African World Cup but not the Euro 2012, Pazzini has played a virtually opposite career path than Antonio Cassano, and now they find themselves switching again. This is life in calcio.
The Rossoneri cannot wait to see the V sign pointing to his eyes after he scores. After passing his medical at Milanello, Pazzini will undergo his first practice today with the boys."
