Juventus full-back Reto Ziegler has revealed that Benfica have had a bid rejected for his services.
The Switzerland international has largely impressed while on loan at Fenerbahce last season, but the Turkish giants were unable to reach an agreement over permanent transfer.
The defender has since returned to Turin, but he was given a permission to leave as he no longer feature in Alessandro Conte’s plans.
Ziegler was recently linked with a switch to Benfica and he confirms that the Portuguese side are indeed interested in signing him.
“Directly, no one from Benfica came to talk to me, but I know they have made a proposal to Juventus,” Ziegler explained to O Jogo.
“This is true, because I asked Juventus leaders a week ago if they had reached an agreement with Benfica or if was near, and they told me they had rejected the offer.”
The 26-year-old admits a move to Estadio da Luz would be the best solution for him at this moment in time.
“It seems to me that I am a perfect fit for Benfica and I would welcome it, even if it is a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.”
Reto Ziegler joined Juventus on a free transfer from Sampdoria last summer, but he was then sent on loan to Fenerbahce without making a single competitive appearance for the Bianconeri.
The Swiss defender was almost an ever present for the Turkish side last season, having featured in 38 of 40 Super Lig games.
