Ajax pitch invader given 30-year ban

The football hooligan whose attack on AZ goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado caused the Dutch Cup game between Ajax and Alkmaar to be abandoned has been given a 30-year stadium ban.

The Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant reported late on Saturday that Ajax Amsterdam had informed the lawyer of the 19-year-old hooligan that he was banned from attending Ajax matches in the ArenaA for 30 years.

The ban, which is the longest ever by the club, includes the area around the stadium.

The hooligan ran onto the field during the Cup match on Wednesday and aimed a kick at Alvarado, who retaliated and was then sent off.

AZ players complained about the red card and then left the field of play and refused to come back, citing security concerns.

The game was then abandoned with Ajax leading.

Ajax said that the hooligan had earlier already been issued with a stadium ban, but had obtained a ticket through another person, who has since been identified.

The club said it would claim damages from both.

Meanwhile, the hooligan, who has been charged with aggravated assault and transgressing his stadium ban, will have to remain in jail for a further 14 days, a judges' commission has ruled.

The goalkeeper, who has had his red card rescinded by the Dutch football federation, has also laid a charge against the hooligan.
