Under-fire Kean gets Ferguson support

Blackburn manager Steve Kean says he has received support from Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson amid growing pressure on his job.

Kean has been under huge pressure from the club's fans this season, as they currently sit bottom of the Premier League, with a number of top-flight managers condemning the supporter's criticism of Kean in the 2-1 defeat to Bolton at Ewood Park last week.

Harry Redknapp, Alan Pardew and David Moyes have all offered public support to the Scot, who replaced Sam Allardyce at the club last season, though a talk with Sir Alex that has boosted Kean most of all.

"What was said I would rather keep private but it was very encouraging," said Kean told the BBC.

"For him to take the time out to phone me and give me a message of support shows the stature of the man. I was really impressed."

Having won just six of his 39 games in charge of the Lancashire outfit, Kean is looking to add some new faces to his squad in the January transfer window, although refused to reveal his targets.

"I wouldn't like to mention any names because we've done that before in previous windows," he said.

"Then it doesn't happen and it ends up just putting pressure on ourselves, so we'd rather do our business quietly and under the radar."

"We were never leading the fans along but, in hindsight, maybe now we will just not mention anybody and when fans see somebody arriving then they will be happy with that."
