Green out of World Cup Qualifier

Miroslav Beranek will be a relieved man with the news that Paul Green is out of action for up to eight weeks. The Kazakhstan boss can now plan for the World Cup qualifier against Ireland safe in the knowledge the Ireland midfielder will play no part.

Giovanni Trapattoni will name his squad for the game tomorrow and also the friendly against Oman four days later, but the Leeds United player suffered a knee injury on his league debut at Wolves on Saturday.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock has tried to keep fans spirits up by saying that Green is a fast healer and could be back in six weeks. Apparently he had a strong pre-season and commanding first half on Saturday.

“It’s very difficult to replace him with the way he was playing, but we know what we’ve got and we’ll get on. It gives the opportunity for someone else” said Warnock.

Kazakhstan may be ranked 109 places below us in the FIFA rankings, but this may be just the glimmer of hope they need to inspire a big performance as they bid to reach their first ever major tournament.
