Rooney facing four weeks out

Sir Alex Ferguson fears he will be without Wayne Rooney for a month after he was taken to hospital with a nasty leg injury suffered during Manchester United's 3-2 win over Fulham.

The England striker was stretchered off in the closing minutes with blood pouring from a deep thigh gash sustained when he collided with Hugo Rodallega's boot as he tried to a block a shot from the Fulham striker.

"It was a very bad one. He has gone to hospital. It looks like he will be out for four weeks," Ferguson said.

"You have to be wary of infection and that kind of thing so he has gone to the best place and hopefully he will be okay. Rodallega followed through and caught him - but it was an accident of course."

After Damien Duff's early strike but goals from Robin van Persie, Shinji Kagawa and Rafael put United in the driving seat, only for Nemanja Vidic's own goal to sparks some late nerves.

"The first-half performance was fantastic," Ferguson added. "It could have been five, six, anything.

"But we made a terrible mistake for the second goal and it becomes a match. Before that it had never been a match."
