Mancini moves for £6m Scott Sinclair

Scott Sinclair is expected to sign for Manchester City before Friday’s transfer deadline in a deal worth close to £6 million.

The Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup left the 23-year-old winger out of his squad for on Saturday’s 3-0 win over West Ham at the Liberty Stadium.

It is understood that City are still finalising the deal with Swansea, but manager Roberto Mancini is keen to sign a left-sided player after Adam Johnson left the Etihad Stadium for Sunderland in a £10 million move on Friday.

Swansea are believed to have knocked back one or two previous offers for the former England Under-21 international and are hoping to get more than City’s initial £5 million valuation.

Sinclair has told Swansea he does not want to sign a new contract at the Liberty Stadium, and with less than a year left on his present deal he looks set to leave before the end of the transfer window. Laudrup on Saturday confirmed that no bid had been accepted by the club as yet, but he expected developments to gather pace over the coming few days.

Sinclair came off the bench at Loftus Road to score one of Swansea’s five goals in the rout of Queens Park Rangers on the opening day of the season, eight days ago. But there was no sign of the former Chelsea player on Saturday.

“Last week after the game I said there was no problem bringing him into the squad,” Laudrup said. “He did a good job and came off the bench and scored.

“However, there was a lot going on around Scott this week. We spoke with each other and decided it was best that he didn’t participate at all in the game.

“You know things can move fast but we will wait until Monday to see where things stand.

“We know this could go on to Friday evening. If he is still here after that, he will in the squad next Saturday. It is possible he stays, it is possible he leaves.”
