The Slovenia international picked up a knee injury in training and Inter have now announced that Handanovic has undergone surgery on the meniscus problem.
"Samir Handanovic had an operation this (Friday) morning following an injury to the meniscus in his right knee in training," a statement on the club's website read.
"The treatment - carried out via arthroscopy - was a complete success.
"The operation - at the IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia - was the work of Professor Franco Benazzo, with Inter's chief of medical staff, Franco Combi in attendance."
The 28-year-old Handanovic joined Inter from fellow Serie A side Udinese earlier this year and made his official debut in the Europa League game against Hajduk Split on August 2.
