Scored in his formative days at Arsenal, he was a late replacement for Dennis Bergkamp and produced this incredible special solo effort - beating a man and curling his shot into the far corner.

Arsenal v Wigan, January 2006

Proving himself the master of left-footed free-kicks hit high into the corner, this goal, deep in extra time, looked to have given Arsenal a place in the Carling Cup final. Moments later, however, Jason Roberts scored for Wigan to send them to Cardiff on away goals.

Van Persie reaches the by-line, dances around the goalkeeper and shoots from a tight angle. Neat, clinical and routine.

Charlton v Arsenal, September 2006

A technically brilliant goal and hit with venom, too. Van Persie emerges from nowhere to fire Eboué's lofted pass into the top right from outside the area before celebrating with his strike partner at the time, Thierry Henry.

A huge run up for a huge free-kick. There's nothing particularly complicated about this goal - just a very well executed screamer.

Arsenal v Barcelona, February 2011

Chelsea v Arsenal, October 2011

In one of a number of high scoring ding-dong matches in the Premier League last season, Van Persie stole the headlines with a superb hat-trick in 5-3 win at Stamford Bridge. His third put the nail in Chelsea's coffin as he rounded off a sweeping counter-attack by slamming the ball past an unimpressive Petr Cech.

The Dutch striker showed superb reflexes to cushion home a left-foot volley from Alex Song's sprayed pass to give Arsenal the lead. Within minutes 'what a volley' was trending on Twitter.

Liverpool v Arsenal, March 2012

A near carbon copy of his strike against Everton, though arguably even better, as Sagna floats the ball into the area in injury time at Anfield with the goal locked at 1-1. Van Persie takes a touch and fires a volley past Reina at his near post to seal a dramatic win.
