Wigan have pulled off a transfer coup after they announced the signing of Ivory Coast International Arouna Kone.
The 28 year old joins the club from Spanish side Levante in €3.5 million deal and has signed a three-year deal at the DW Stadium.
Kone made his name in Holland with Roda JC and PSV Eindhoven, where he won two Dutch titles, before a move to Sevilla in 2007.
Kone failed to find his best form in Sevilla and eventually spent time on loan with Hannover where he restored his reputation somewhat before a further loan spell with Levante last season saw him return an impressive 15 league goals.
Levante decided to make the loan spell permanent early this summer howver they have wasted little time in cashing in on the 35 times capped International.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Latics manager Roberto Martinez was delighted with the capture of the striker “He’s a player that we’ve been chasing for a long long time”
“We know Arouna really well, he got tremendous experience in European football and we’ve really enjoyed watching his goal scoring talent.
“He’s a strong payer with a clinical touch and someone who will bring us something different up front.”
