Arsene Wenger in for wantaway Manchester United man again as Suarez hopes fade following the Uruguayan's apology to Liverpool squad.
Is he Gunner go? Arsenal are in for England man Rooney again |
Arsene Wenger has made a sensational new move for Wayne Rooney.
It comes as Luis Suarez returned to training with his Liverpool team-mates after apologising to the club yesterday for his recent conduct. Arsenal’s shock Rooney enquiry shows they are now looking at other options with Liverpool determined not to sell to the Gunners.
However, Mirror Sport understands Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has made an approach to Manchester United and the Rooney camp was also sounded out this week.
United boss David Moyes is adamant that Rooney is not for sale.
But the striker remains unsettled and Arsenal are keen to see if a deal can be done.
Chelsea have already had bids turned down but Arsenal wonder whether United would prefer to sell to them – just a year after Robin van Persie went in the opposite direction.
Arsenal’s England duo Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott even joked with Rooney while on England duty this week that he should join them.
The Gunners are determined to land a big signing before the end of the window with the chances of a Suarez deal fading.
Suarez returned to training with the Liverpool first-team squad, with an apology to team-mates for what he admitted had been the “wrong attitude”.
He met Rodgers yesterday and made sufficient amends to allow him to join in with the squad’s preparations for the game today against Stoke, despite being ruled out through suspension for the first six matches.
It is believed Rooney would be interested in a move to Arsenal, even though Chelsea remain determined to land the England striker.
Wenger wants to land “two or three” signings by the end of the transfer window with Atletico Madrid full-back Juanfran, 28, the latest to be looked at.
