Chelsea set deadline for signing Rooney amidst lack of clarity from Man

London: Chelsea has made it clear that it wants a deal wrapped up for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney by August 26 or they would give up on the player.

According to The Daily Express, Blues boss Jose Mourinho wants Rooney at Chelsea by the time they go to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the big early showdown.
Chelsea have had two bids turned down but are readying another offer of around 28 million pounds plus add-ons to submit this week, the report said.

United remain adamant the striker is not for sale but Chelsea are still confident they can do a deal because of Rooney`s desire to go to Stamford Bridge, the report added.

However, if Rooney is not Chelsea`s player by Monday week, they will turn to Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto`o with a 5 million pound deal already close to agreement, the report further said.
