CSKA Moscow midfielder Keisuke Honda, who has been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United, is set to complete a move to Lazio.
Reports last week suggested that United had entered the race to sign the Japan international, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League on a number of occasions over the past twelve months.
As well as Liverpool, Arsenal have also shown interest in the 25-year-old, with recent reports in his homeland suggesting both clubs were considering bids for the playmaker before the end of this month.
But according to Sports Nippon, Lazio are closing in on Honda, who will join the Serie A side in a deal worth around £12million, subject to him passing a medical.
Honda is said to have met with Lazio president Claudio Lotito in Rome on Saturday to discuss a move.
He had earlier told the same publication: "I want to go to Lazio. I'm confident over my transfer. The clubs are in the final phase of negotiations, but I've have not found an agreement yet with the club.
"In today's football world everything can happen in the last hour of the market window. My will is to go playing in the Italian championship.
"It isn't the best of the world and its level is down compared to the past, but it's one of the most difficult places as an attacking player."
