Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says he supports the FA's decision to hand Roy Hodgson the England manager's job.
Gerrard worked with Hodgson during the manager's disastrous stint with Liverpool, which ended when he was sacked in January of last year, after just six months in charge.
But despite that Gerrard, who has been mentioned as a possible captain for Euro 2012, says Hodgson is a good appointment and wants the fans to get behind him, even though many of them were hoping Spurs boss Harry Redknapp would get the nod.
"I've worked with Roy," said Gerrard. "He's a good man and a good manager
"It's important he's given a chance and I'm looking forward to working with him again."
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere's season has been ruined by injury but he will hope to feature for England at some point under Hodgson and has also offered the new man his backing.
"Good choice in my opinion!" he tweeted. "Good luck and I hope I can help him in some way in the future!"
