Sir Alex Ferguson says he blundered in failing to sign Joe Hart for just £100,000.
The Manchester United boss believes the City keeper, signed from Shrewsbury for £1.5m, is the best England has produced in 20 years.
Fergie said: "I could have bought Hart for £100k, so we all make mistakes.
"If you look at the goalkeeping situation in England then he's easily the best they've had for the last 20 years."
But Ferguson does not regret losing Carlos Tevez to local rivals City in 2009.
The Old Trafford chief added: "A deal could have been done for Tevez after his two-year loan if we had acted earlier.
"He is a man for the big game, there is no question about that. He is a big-game player.
"He did well in his season at West Ham. There was an easy solution because he was loaned to us and we paid the loan fee for that two years and then we had an option to buy him.
"But I was just a bit hesitant, I wasn't quite sure."
