Johan Djourou has backed Arsenal to rediscover its form with a win at Sunderland on Saturday after the mid-week mauling at the hands of Milan.
Djourou also believes that the cup could provide Arsenal with a chance of winning silverware for the first time since winning the same competition in 2005.
“We must show a different attitude. It is a big game because it is the FA Cup and we want to go far in that competition," Djourou told the club's official website. “We have to be in a different mindset and I hope we will be because as human beings you do not like to be embarrassed and not respond in the next game.
“Football is always a new game. You could play 10 times against a team and there would be a lot of different results.”
The Gunners beat the Black Cats 2-1 last weekend thanks to a last-gasp Thierry Henry winner, but the legendary striker has now returned to New York Red Bulls following his loan spell. Still, Djourou is confident of picking up another good result.
“We beat them last week but this one is going to be another game," he said. "But having won there, we are confident we can do it again. It is a new start.
“We have to be better than them, as we were last time. We have to show our character and quality.”
Last season a late Obafemi Martins goal snatched the Carling Cup away from the Gunners, seeing them enter their sixth year without a trophy, and a year on the Swiss defender wants to use this setback as another motivation for success.
"The FA Cup is one of the main targets and we have to go for it,” Djourou continued.
“[The League Cup final defeat] is very motivating because we were very disappointed about what happened last time at Wembley and we want to put that right.
“I think it is something still in our heads, and it is difficult to swallow. We know if we can get to the final we can lift the trophy.”
