Tottenham fail with 'enormous' bid for Arsenal FC target Loic Remy

Marseille have revealed they have rejected an "enormous" bid from Tottenham for striker Loic Remy, who has also been linked with north London rivals Arsenal.

The 25-year-old, who joined Marseille in August 2010 for around £12million, had been linked with the Gunners prior to his switch from Nice to the Stade Velodrome.

Arsene Wenger had remained keen, but Spurs were widely seen as frontrunners to sign the France international if he was to leave the Ligue 1 club this month.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp flew to France earlier this month to watch Remy in action against Lille, and now Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune has revealed he turned down a big money bid from White Hart Lane.

He told L'Equipe: "In January, I have two deals to manage. That of Lucho [Gonzalez], who wanted to leave, and that of Remy, who Tottenham wanted to sign.

"I do not think any other president in France would have refused the enormous proposal the London club made."

Gonzalez, who is set to join Porto, has also been linked with Arsenal.
